Brett Adam Jack was born on Saturday 13th January weighing 8
pounds 9 ounces, but sadly he has had various problems and remains in
the neonatal special care unit at the moment (25th Jan 07). His
problems briefly were that he was finding it hard to maintain his
oxygen levels and body temperature, his blood sugar was very low
(less than 1mmol when he arrived at the NNU and he was on a glucose
drip because he has had trouble feeding and had to be fed hourly via
a nasal tube, and he also has 2 tiny holes in his heart.
He is doing well and progress is slow but sure with only a few
setbacks. More details of his day to day progress will be put onto
the news page as and when time allows.
The team that delivered Brett were fabulous and although I was
very stressed out having never had any surgery before, they all were
very kind and helped me relax as much as possible (although you
wouldn't have thought so by my blood pressure readings! lol)
A BIG thank you to everyone who was present at Brett's birth,
especially Chris who delivered him, and to the staff on the neonatal
Unit who looked after him, and to the staff on the post natal ward
who looked after me, you are all wonderful!
Our Brett...
The following is a poem I came across on the internet, and I
think it sums up how we feel about 'Our Brett'. The author is unknown.
My face may be different, But my feelings the same. I laugh and I
cry, And I take pride in my gains. I was sent here among you, To
teach you to love, As God in the heavens, Looks down from
above, To Him I'm no different, His love knows no bounds, It's those
here among you, In cities and towns, That judge me by standards, That
man has imparted, But this family I've chosen, Will help me get
started, For I'm one of the children, So special and few, That came
here to learn, The same lessons as you, That love is acceptance, It
must come from the heart, We all have the same purpose, Though not
the same start, The Lord gave me life, To live and embrace, And I'll
do it as you do, But at my own pace. (Anon)
